Shaheed El-Hafed, 7 November 2015 (SPS) President of Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, Thursday welcomed the call of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon for "true negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco to be launched in the coming months to lead to self-determination of the Saharawi people."

In a statement, Abdelaziz said that "the statement of the UN Secretary-General confirms the historical and legal assumptions implying the Saharawi cause, as Western Sahara is not a Moroccan territory and its final status is closely linked to decolonization through the exercise by the Saharawi people of their inalienable right to self-determination and independence."

After describing the appeal of Ban Ki-moon as "red card" sent to Morocco, the Saharawi president said the call "is a very clear message to Morocco that continues to hamper the efforts of Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, Christopher Ross, through equivocation and delay."

"This call categorically denies all the tendentious allegations peddled by Morocco and stifle the autonomy project that is opposite to international law," he added.

He described the visit of the Moroccan sovereign to the occupied Saharawi territories as "headlong flight facing setbacks, rejection by the international community to endorse the occupation, and the unprecedented resistance of the Saharawi people and its refusal to give up for 40 years," adding that "this (visit) represents a simple provocative approach."

The Polisario Front has reaffirmed its willingness to enter into true negotiations without preconditions, advocated by the Secretary General of the UN to reach a solution that guarantees the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence, and expressed satisfaction with the statement of the Secretary General of the UN, dubbing it "a step in the right direction," the Saharawi president stressed.

"The Polisario Front calls upon the Security Council to take into consideration the findings of the UN Secretary General and to expedite measures leading to a just solution in accordance with the Charter and the decisions of the UN, including the 1514 decision."

The Saharawi President urged the Security Council "to assume its responsibilities to end the Moroccan equivocation and refusal to comply with UN resolutions and decisions of the African Union (AU)." (SPS)
