Submitted on

Moscow, November 9, 2015 (SPS) The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the United Russia Socialist party,Vladimir Lakaev, condemned the serious violations of human rights committed by Morocco in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, during reception to the representative of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Fadel Ali Salem.

Mr. Kataev expressed his party's solidarity with the legitimate struggle of the people of Western Sahara, calling on the United Nations to defend its Charter and its principles for granting Sahrawis their right to self-determination and independence.

The Saharawi diplomat informed his interlocutors on the latest developments of the peace process in Western Sahara, the United Nations' failure to defend its decisions, and the Moroccan violations of human rights and the illegal plundering of Saharawi natural resources.

He also stressed that the tolerance of the international community with the brutal violations of the Moroccan occupation has put the Polisario Front, the sole legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people, "in a difficult choice to face, namely the return to armed struggle, an option that has disastrous consequences for the region."

For their part, Russian officials have expressed regret for the tragic situation imposed on the Sahrawi people because of the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara for over 40 years. (SPS)
