ALGIERS, November 12, 2015 (SPS) - The 40th meeting of the European Conference for support and solidarity with the Saharawi people (EUCOCO), to be held Friday and Saturday in Madrid, will be an opportunity for participants to reiterate the "inalienable" right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence, and contribute to the peace process in Western Sahara, occupied by Morocco since 1975.

"The EUCOCO is, without doubt, the largest annual meeting of the European movement of solidarity with the Saharawi people, which increasingly acquired a global dimension, and not just European," said the organizers of this conference.

During this conference of solidarity with Western Sahara, the stake is "reaching other goals such as denouncing the systematic violation of human rights by Morocco in Western Sahara occupied territories and expressing support to the continuous struggle of the Sahrawi population in these territories," the source added.

At the same time, "stopping repression of the most basic rights and the release of all Saharawi political prisoners will be included in the Conference’s decisions," they said.

The enlargement of the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to monitoring and protection of human rights in Western Sahara, will, also, one of the “important" themes of the conference.

The 40th EUCOCO represents an opportunity to raise awareness in Spain and Europe about the causes and its impacts on the Sahrawi population in the occupied territories and the refugee camps.

In addition to representatives of governments recognizing the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), MPs and elected members of national and international, political and trade union organizations, friendship associations with the Saharawi people, NGOs and personalities from the field of culture will take part in this meeting of solidarity.(SPS)
