Sahrawi party “optimistic” about Ross’s tour to region, “remains vigilant” against Moroccan obstinacy

Shahid Al Hafedh (refugee camps), 28 Nov 2015 (SPS)- The representative of the Polisario Front at the United Nations (UN) Ahmed Boukhari said, Friday, that the Sahrawi party is “optimistic” about the tour of the Personal envoy of the UN Secretary General to Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, while “remaining vigilant against the Moroccan obstinacy.”

“The Sahrawi party is optimistic about the tour of the Personal envoy of the UN Secretary General to Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, but remains vigilant against the obstinacy of Morocco concerning the Sahrawi people’s self-determination,” Boukhari said after Ross’s arrival to Sahrawi refugee camps.

The Sahrawi official said that Ross’ two-day visit to Sahrawi refugee camps takes place in a “particular context,” following the declarations of the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, on November 4th, which represented an “implicit assessment” of the UN’s efforts since 2007, and negotiations that “did not bring the results expected by the Security Council.”

Affirming that the Sahrawi party “shares Ban Ki-moon’s assessment,” Boukhari dubbed “the Moroccan autonomy thesis, a vain attempt to violate international law and the right to self-determination principle.”

“We await Ross’s report at the end of this tour before the visit of the UN Secretary General to the region,” he said, adding that the report that Ban Ki-moon will present next April will be “decisive” for the Sahrawi issue.
