9 June School (Refugee Camps), November 29, 2015 (SPS) The National Council (Parliament) celebrated Saturday the 40th anniversary of its establishment as an important institution in the struggle for the independence of Western Sahara.
In his speech at the opening of the festivities which was presented by several parliamentarians and activists of human rights around the world, the president of the National Council, Khatri Addouh, stressed that the creation of the Saharawi interim parliament (28 November 1975) "as the first institution of Sahrawi sovereignty and its key role in the struggle, is intended as a rejection by the Saharawi people of Moroccan occupation policies inherited from Spain."
Plus de 200 parlementaires et des militants des droits de l'homme solidaires avec la cause sahraouie, prennent part à cette manifestation.
Algeria was represented at the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Saharawi Parliament by a parliamentary delegation composed of five members including the Vice President of the People's National Congress (PNC), Ghania Idali, and the president of the parliamentary friendship group and brotherhood with the Saharawi people, Saida Bounab.
The event also witnessed the participation of a delegation from the African Commission, MPs and activists of human rights including Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States and Costa Rica.
The ninth legislative tenure of the Saharawi Parliament comes to an end in February 2016 and will be renewed following the General Congress of the Frente Polisario from 16 to 20 December. (SPS)
