Morocco endangers peace process in Western Sahara

Submitted on

Washington(U.S.A) December 08 2015 (SPS) - Morocco has, once again, endangered the peace process, by refusing to enter into direct negotiations with the Polisario Front, the party’s representative under the United Nations, Ahmed Bujari told APS, on Monday.

“The Polisario Front was officially informed that Morocco refused to enter into direct negotiations,” announced in early November by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, said Bujari.

Worse, “Morocco told the UN Secretary General’s Special envoy, Christopher Ross, that he will not set foot in Western Sahara again,” added Bujari on the eve of a briefing, scheduled by Ross at the Security Council, to assess the progress of his last three visits in the region.

With this double rejection, Morocco “has once again endangered the peace process,” regretted the Sahrawi representative, adding that the Security Council must ensure, Tomorrow, Morocco’s cooperation in this briefing.

“The Security Council must protect the mandate and the status of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General, who is prohibited to the visit the territory to which he was designated,” he said. (SPS)
