Brussels (Belgium), December 11, 2015 (SPS) - The decision taken by European Union Court of Justice (CJEU) invalidating the trade agreement on agricultural produce signed, in 2012, between the Kingdom of Morocco and the European union, is "historic" and poses the "basic" question on the future of Western Sahara territories, according to Lawyer Gilles Devers, the principal lawyer of the Polisario Front who brought the case before the court.
"Today's basic question is about the future of the territory and the people (of Western Sahara)," he told APS.
The European Commission stated and wrote that the territory of Morocco "actually ends at its historical borders" (the occupied territories of Western Sahara not taken into account), the international law expert and lawyer at French Lyon Bar stressed.
All geographical maps of Morocco on EU foreign ministries' websites show this country's borders ending at its historical borders, he added.
Morocco has no right on this territory, no international mandate and Western Sahara territory must be decolonized, according to the international law specialist.
"Morocco should understand that it cannot build the future on international law violation and that the only solution is to hold referendum on (Saharawi people's) self-determination."
