Shaheed El-Hafed, January 9, 2016 (SPS) - The Polisario Front on Saturday welcomed the upcoming visit of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in a statement issued by the first ordinary session of the National Secretariat.
The National Secretariat expressed the hope that this visit will lead to a stronger involvement by the UN Security Council and contribute in achieving a real progress that enables MINURSO to fulfill its primary mission at the earliest time, , namely the organization of the self-determination of the Sahrawi people.
It called on the European Union to achieve a shift in attitude in resolving the Western Sahara conflict, in harmony with its vital role in ensuring peace, stability and development in the region, hence the need to abandon its unjustified disregard for the Moroccan colonial expansionist thesis and refrain from signing any agreement with Morocco including Sahrawi natural resources.
The National Secretariat expressed special gratitude to the African Union that embraces the need to decolonize the last colony in the continent by completing the Sahrawi state’s sovereignty on its entire national territory.
It welcomed warmly the position of Algeria, led by His Excellency President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, which reflects the principled and unwavering consensus to the side of the struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence, in conformity with the Charter and resolutions of the United Nations.
It also commended Mauritania's role in supporting United Nations efforts to resolve the conflict in Western Sahara and its central contribution to peace and stability in the region.
The National Secretariat of the Polisario Front praised the positions of the solidarity movement in the world, and saluted Spanish peoples for siding with the struggle of the Sahrawi people, underlining the legal and historical responsibility of the Spanish State towards the decolonization of Western Sahara, and demanding the Spanish Parliament for the need of a comprehensive investigation into the Madrid agreements and determination of responsibilities.
