Crans Montana Forum represents flagrant violation of international law (Polisario Front)

Submitted on

Shaheed El-Hafed, January 11, 2016 (SPS) - The National Secretariat of the Polisario Front confirmed that "the efforts of the Crans Montana Forum to hold its next session in the occupied territories of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), after the failure of its last session, represents a flagrant violation of international law and contempt of the United Nations Charter."

In a statement issued following its first session held Saturday under the leadership of President Mohamed Abdelaziz, The National Secretariat called on "all countries, governments, personalities, international banking, financial organizations not to participate in such a propaganda operation to involve countries, companies, and international organizations in the illegal plundering of the wealth of the Sahrawi people."

The statement called on the UN to adopt "a clear and strict intervention to stop the session to be held on a territory under the direct responsibility of the UN, as a non-autonomous territory pending its decolonization through a self-determination referendum under UN auspices."

"Peace, security and stability in the region require the implementation of sanctions and pressure on the Moroccan occupying State to stop its policies of expansion, aggression and the flood region by drugs, which is the first funding source of terrorist groups," the statement added.

On the other hand, the National Secretariat welcomed the forthcoming visit of the UN Secretary General to the region while expressing the hope that this visit will allow involvement of the Council Security to enable MINURSO to carry out its core mission, which consists in the holding of a self-determination referendum in Western Sahara, the Sahrawi news agency (SPS) announced.

It reaffirmed the "sincere will of the Polisario Front to cooperate with United Nations' efforts for the decolonization of Western Sahara, imputing to the Moroccan State the responsibility for obstruction and inertia."

The National Secretariat of the Polisario Front also welcomed "the firm position of Algeria, under the chairmanship of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, in support of the struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence, in accordance with the Charter and resolutions of the United Nations."
