Paris, January 21, 2016 (SPS) - The Association Friends of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in France (AARASD) said Wednesday its joining to the international petition calling on the UN to organize the self-determination referendum for the Saharawi people by the end of 2017.
AARASD joins the international campaign (Western Sahara Referendum-Now) launched by the Swiss Committee with a petition that will be presented to the Security Council and the UN headquarters in Geneva and New York in September 2016" said the French association which includes several NGOs and organizations supporting the Saharawi people in their struggle against the Moroccan occupation.
"The Sahrawis must exercise their right to self-determination referendum", the Association stressed.
In an appeal entitled "Western Sahara-Referendum Now", the undersigned persons ask the Security Council to "organize, by the end of 2017, the self-determination referendum for the Sahrawi population following the rules of the peace Plan 1991.
The petition with all the signatures collected will be handed over to the UN Security Council in the month of September 2016, before the meeting of the Decolonization Commission, at the UN offices in Geneva and New York, they said. (SPS) 125/090/TRA
