Algiers, Jan 24, 2016 (SPS) - A solidarity caravan has been organized Saturday to provide aid to Saharawi refugees at a rest centre in Tamentfoust, Algiers.
Initiated by ANIS Youth Association, the caravan is meant to show support to the Saharawi cause, said Adel Lahbib, the chairman of the association.
The aid consists in blankets, food, clothes, shoes, in addition to presents for ill children and medicines.
Three work teams have been formed, as part of the initiative, to restore and renovate the rest facility.
ANIS Youth Association has organized similar caravans previously, as it had been providing aid and assistance to destitute people in inland provinces before launching such initiatives for Saharawi refugees "who live a difficult situation in their struggle for independence."
The centre hosts every year an average of 700 to 800 Saharawi refugees, according to Saharawi physician Abdellah Mahdi. (SPS)
