Shaheed El Hafed, 12 February 2016 (SPS) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed-Salem Ould Salek affirmed in statement Wednesday that the statement of Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir in which he confirms the support of his country to Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara is in contradiction to international legality.

“The statement of Saudi Foreign Minister Mr. Adel Al-jubeir, declaring his support for Morocco's occupation of Western Sahara, is in clear contradiction to the resolutions of international legitimacy including the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice in 1975 which confirmed the lack of any ties of sovereignty between Western Sahara and the Kingdom of Morocco,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed-Salem Ould Salek.

.
The Sahrawi Minister expressed his astonishment at the statement, and wondered about its motives and private reasons, " the Saudi minister attended personally, along with the Sahrawi Republic, the latest summit of the African Union, and immediately noted that the Kingdom of Morocco is the only African state the exists outside of the African Union. "

"Morocco is in a total isolation as a result of the illegal occupation of parts of the SADR, which prompted the African leaders at the African Summit to issue a resolution condemning the Moroccan obstacles to the international efforts aimed at the decolonization of Western Sahara, the last colony in the African continent," he added.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed-Salem Ould Salek stressed that "the provisions of Islamic Shariah, the principles of international law, the UN Charter and the resolutions of all international organizations refute and condemn the statement of Saudi foreign minister, which supports injustice, tarnishes the reputation of his country and does not contribute to peace based on justice, truth and law".
