Danish Municipality stopped importing salt from occupied Western Sahara

Submitted on

Copenhagen (Denmark), February 17,2016 (SPS) -The Danish Municipality of Gladsaxe has announced recently that it has terminated its contract on the supply of deicing salt from the Danish Company Dansk Vejsalt A/S.

The termination is based on a request from the Danish Solidarity Organisation Afrika Kontakt, who had alleged that the Dansk Vejsalt Company  was importing salt from occupied Western Sahara, and not as they had claimed from Morocco.

“The deicing salt meant for Gladsaxe was shipped from a harbour in Western Sahara and it was the same Moroccan office that issued the permission to extract the salt on both sides of the border (Morocco and Western Sahara). Both these factors would indicate that the connection to the Western Sahara is not broken,” the municipality of Gladsaxe said in a statement. (SPS)
