Smara(Sahrawi Refugee Camps), February 23, 2016 (SPS) -The Head of the Sahrawi delegation to negotiations with Morocco for the settlement of the conflict in Western Sahara, Khatri Addouh hoped Monday, in Smara, that the upcoming visit of the United Nations’ Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, to the region, is a “strong message” to the Moroccan occupier, who continues to create obstacles for the efforts of the international community.

“We hope that the UN Secretary General’s visit is a strong message, that our Moroccan brothers understand once and for all that they must first admit that they made the mistake of invading a territory that is not theirs to the detriment of the international law but also to the detriment of peoples’ right to self-determination,” said Khatri Addouh on the sidelines of a conference held in Smara on the occasion of a Marathon for Western Sahara.

Addouh also underlined that the Sahrawi people fought and continue to resist and “that is what will reflect the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of the SADR (Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic).”

The head of Sahrawi negotiations, also president of the National Preparatory Commission for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of SADR, Khatri Addouh, said that the UN Secretary General’s visit will take place on the first week of March.

“He will visit us and maybe some countries of the region, to see how to push the negotiations process and the search of a peaceful solution in Western Sahara,” he underlined.

For Addouh, the scheduled date for this visit must be respected by the United Nations and by Ban Ki-Moon, who benefited last week, from open and displayed support of the United Nations’ Security Council.

Addouh said in a statement to APS, that the UN Secretary General “must tell the whole truth on the authors of hindrances to the international efforts in the region.”

A Marathon will be organized Tuesday morning in honour of the Sahrawi cause, which coincides with the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of SADR. SPS
