Shahid El Hafed (Refugee Camps), February 26, 2016 (SPS) - Sahrawi Petroleum and Minerals Authority expressed satisfaction to the decision that has been announced by Lithuanian company LIFOSA, a pioneer in the production of mineral fertilizers, to stop importing phosphate from Moroccan occupied Western Sahara.
The Chairperson of Sahrawi Petroleum and Minerals Authority, Dr. Ghali Zubair, Highlighted the in a press release that the decision reflects a significant shift in the consciousness of international companies regarding legal consequences of involvement in illegal and unethical economic activities in a territory under occupation, on the light of the decisions of the European Court of Justice, the legal opinion of the African Union and the legal Opinion of the Advisory Counsel of the United Nations, which all agree that investment in the occupied territories of the Western Sahara is a flagrant violation of international law and a prolong of the suffering of the Saharawis who face illegal occupation of their country for more than 40 years.
The statement called on foreign companies that are still engaged in economic activities in the occupied territories of Western Sahara to comply with the requirements of international law relating to the non self-governing territories such as Western Sahara. (SPS)
