Algeria reiterates support to UN efforts for relaunch of negotiations between Morocco, Polisario Front

Algiers, 28 February 2016 (SPS) - President of Algeria H.E. Abdelaziz Bouteflika affirmed that Algeria will “spare no effort” to bring its “support” to the United Nations Secretary General’s proposal to revive the direct negotiations between Morocco and the Polisario Front to come to a “just and sustainable” solution guaranteeing the Sahrawi people their right to self-determination.

 

“On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, I am pleased to address, on behalf of the Algerian people and on my own behalf, our warmest congratulations as well as my best wishes of success in the realization of the brotherly Sahrawi people’s legitimate aspiration to exercise their right to self-determination,” said the Head of State in a message addressed to the President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front,Mohamed Abdelaziz.

 

“I take this opportunity, which comes the day after the successful holding of the 14th Polisario Front Congress, and which marks a new step in the rich and glorious history of the Sahrawi people’s fight, to reaffirm to you, Algeria’s commitment to the respect of the principles of the peoples’ right to self-determination, to the strict implementation of the United Nations doctrine, to which the colonial countries and peoples are subjected to, and to the promotion of virtues of dialogue,” he underlined.

 

“As a neighboring country of both parties to the conflict, Algeria recognizes the approach of the international community and the United Nations in particular, which advocates, with consistence, a solution based on the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara, in line with Africa’s position, which puts the completion of decolonization a top priority of its continental organization since its creation,” said the President of the Republic.

 

“The settlement of the Western Sahara issue is the responsibility of the United Nations,” said the Head of State ensuring that, “Algeria will spare no effort to bring support to the proposal of the UN Secretary General for the relaunch of direct negotiations between the Moroccan Kingdom and the Polisario Front and to its efforts for a just and sustainable solution that will guarantee the brotherly Sahrawi people their inalienable right to self-determination.”

 

“Such ways will only open new more promising horizons for peace and development in the North African and African region,” added President Bouteflika. (SPS)
