South Africa reiterates support for Sahrawi people and its just cause

Algiers, October 31, 2024 (SPS) - The South African ambassador to Algeria, Mr Ndumiso Ndima Ntshinga, reaffirmed during a meeting with the Sahrawi ambassador to Algeria, member of the national secretariat, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, the solidarity and support of South Africa for the just struggle of the Sahrawi people for its legitimate rights to freedom and independence, in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations and the African Union.

The South African ambassador to Algeria, who will present his credentials as South Africa's ambassador to the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in the coming days, stated that it is time for the international community to take responsibility for enforcing international legitimacy decisions aimed at enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination.

The ambassador considered the recent ruling by the European Court of Justice as a significant victory for the Sahrawi people and international legitimacy, which imposes an obligation on all supporters and defenders of international law to uphold it and ensure its implementation against Morocco and any states or companies attempting to bypass this European judicial decision.

For his part, the Sahrawi ambassador praised South Africa's supportive and solidarity-driven positions with the Sahrawi people.

The meeting also discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to develop them in various areas, as well as the prospects for the work of the diplomatic forum in solidarity with the Sahrawi people, which includes several accredited ambassadors in Algeria from different continents, where the South African embassy has played a prominent role in the success of its activities.
