A solidarity convoy from the Algerian province of Tindouf arrives at the Sahrawi refugee camps

Chahid El-Hafed (Sahrawi Republic) 24 September 2024 (SPS) - Civil and military authorities from the Algerian province of Tindouf supervised the launch of a humanitarian solidarity convoy heading to the Sahrawi refugee camps, following the call made by the Sahrawi Red Crescent after the recent floods that devastated the refugee camps, especially in Dakhla.

The convoy, consisting of trucks carrying thousands of tons of essential provisions and food supplies, was launched in the presence of Algerian provincial authorities, led by the Governor of Tindouf, Dahou Mustapha, who afirmed that this initiative aims to alleviate the suffering of the Sahrawi people and the disasters that forced many families out of their homes.

The convoy was received at Chahid El-Hafed by both the Minister of Economic Development, Baba Fdid, and the National Director of Equipment, Mohamed Salem Arradhi. The convoy is set to head directly to Dakhla refugee camps, where most of the victims of the floods are living.

It should be recalled that after the torrential rains that swept through Dakhla province on Sunday and Monday, causing damage to homes and public facilities, Dakhla was declared a disaster-stricken area.

In reaction, the Sahrawi Ministry of Interior declared the Wilaya as a disaster-hit zone, while the Sahrawi Red Crescent sent numerous appeals to various international humanitarian organizations, requesting aid and assistance to alleviate the suffering of the Sahrawi people in the refugee camps.
