President of National Council affirms African Parliament's contribution in conveying voice of continent's peoples

Midrand (South Africa), 20 September 2024 (SPS) - The President of the National Council, Hamma Salama, emphasized Friday the importance of the African Parliament in conveying the voice of the African peoples and contributing to the achievement of their aspirations.

In a speech delivered before the 12th Conference of Speakers of African Parliaments held in Midrand, South Africa, the member of the Polisario Front's National Secretariat and President of the National Council emphasized that "the Sahrawi National Council was among the first to adopt the policies of the African Union and unanimously ratified the protocol annexed to the Constitutive Act of the African Union relating to the African Parliament, expressing a deep conviction of the need to strengthen the principles of human rights and peoples, and to consolidate democracy in Africa, respect for self-determination and the freedom of peoples, good governance, the rule of law, and transparency of member states."

Hamma Salama reiterated the "respect for the decisions and recommendations issued by the institutions of the African Union and the implementation of their provisions related to the Western Sahara issue as the last case of decolonization in the African continent".

Accordingly, as he said, "the Sahrawi people are awaiting the support of the African peoples and their leaders for its struggle against colonialism and injustice to which they have been subjected since 1975 after the military invasion of their lands and the commission of war crimes against humanity and the displacement of thousands of Sahrawis".
