Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) February 14, 2024 (SPS) - The 44th session of the Executive Council of the African Union countries was held today, Wednesday, in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, with the participation of a member of the National Secretariat, the Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Sidati.

At the opening ceremony, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr. Moussa Faki, reviewed the international and regional situation and the role of the African Union’s structures in promoting its strength, highlighting that our continent is experiencing difficult political and security conditions that call on us to join efforts to resolve these preoccupations, conflicts and tensions plaguing the entities of this continent.

Mr. Moussa Faki called on the African Union’s foreign ministers to assume their historical responsibilities for the advancement of the continent and the participation of its people in achieving greater progress and prosperity, taking care of and rationalizing human resources, as well as strengthening partnership with countries and organizations and making the African continent assume the desired position.

He also pointed out that Africa, like other continents s in the world, is looking to solve many important issues such as education, health and the economy.

As for the Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Mr. Taye Atske Selassie, he stressed that his country will spare no effort to contribute to the development of the continent and its structures, considering that education is a top priority for the people of the continent.

Mr. Taye Atske Selassie pointed out that partnerships are essential for the development of the continent, and that peace and security are among the concerns of the continent's leaders and ministers, calling for the need to reform the UN Security Council.

The opening session of the 44th session of the Executive Council of the African Union countries witnessed many interventions that called for improving the work and structures of the continent, enhancing education programs, investments, including it as a priority in the labor market, and the necessity of improving curricula to be in line with the desired development of the continent by increasing expenditures, building skills, strengthening innovation, and contributing in strengthening Africa's role to achieve the desired goal for all the peoples of the continent.

The interveners also focused on the continent's problems, especially security, borders and water, in addition to the issue of economic development and combating violence, especially against women.

The Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs is accompanied by a delegation consisting of the Ambassador in charge of Africa, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beisat, the Permanent Ambassador to the African Union and Ethiopia, Mr. Laman Abaali, and members of the Sahrawi mission in Ethiopia.

The Sahrawi delegation held many side meetings with the foreign ministers of African Union countries.
