President of Sahrawi National Council praises Algeria's constant support for Sahrawi people

Boumerdes (Algeria), October 14, 2023 (SPS) - The President of the Sahrawi National Council (Parliament), Hamma Salama, praised Algeria's constant support for the Sahrawi people and other oppressed peoples around the world for several decades.

"Algeria has never hesitated to support the Sahrawi people over the course of many decades, just as it has always done with the Palestinian people and all oppressed peoples worldwide," said Mr. Hamma Salama in his speech at the closing of the Algerian-Sahrawi trade union solidarity week, held over five days at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Boumerdes, with the participation of hundreds of Sahrawi trade unionists and African delegations.

He mentioned the thousands of Sahrawi professionals who have graduated from Algerian universities and are currently active in various Sahrawi institutions.

The Sahrawi leader expressed pride in benefiting from Algeria's rich experience, which has inspired many freedom-seeking peoples around the world. He commended the efforts made to ensure the success of the solidarity week and the achieved results in enhancing the training of Sahrawi professionals.

He also expressed gratitude to the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) for organizing the trade union solidarity forum, which reflects the significant role of Algeria in supporting just causes with its revolutionary ideals and principles.

Mr. Salama reiterated the Sahrawi people's support for the Palestinian people, who have fallen victim to the heinous massacre by the Zionist war machine, which indiscriminately targets children, women, and men in its reckless bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

He denounced the fact that the Zionist occupier targets Palestinian civilians and emphasized that the Sahrawi people, who have suffered from Moroccan occupation since 1975, fully understand the meaning of occupation, population displacement, and the crimes of the Moroccan occupier.

"The Moroccan occupier shares with the Zionist entity all the methods of injustice and aggression in its occupation, using, as in the case of Gaza, all internationally prohibited weapons and Zionist entity aircraft to bomb the Sahrawi people," added the Sahrawi official. He further noted an escalation of crimes by the Moroccan occupier following the signing of the normalization and security and military cooperation agreement aimed at annihilating the Sahrawi cause.

In turn, the representative of the Secretary-General of UGTA, Ferhat Chaikh, emphasized the importance of trade union diplomacy, whose role in supporting oppressed peoples worldwide has been proven. He stated that the Sahrawi Revolution, which is approaching independence, has followed the same approach as the Algerian Liberation War.

He assured that the Algerian people and their successive leaders have always given priority to oppressed and colonized peoples around the world, including the Sahrawi and Palestinian causes. He regarded this trade union solidarity week as a decisive turning point in the history of supporting the Sahrawi struggle.

The Sahrawi ambassador to Algeria, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, commended the organization of this solidarity week, for which UGTA mobilized all material and human resources to enhance Sahrawi trade union action.

He also praised the heroism of the Palestinian people in Gaza, who have revealed to the world that the Zionist entity, from which the Moroccan regime derives its arrogance, is in fact fragile and weak, reaping only shame, defeat, and humiliation in the face of a changing world moving towards a new, more just, equitable, and anti-hegemonic world.
