Deputy Foreign Minister of Honduras affirms boosting relations with Sahrawi Republic

Shahid Al Hafed, 13 February 2022 (SPS) -  The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Honduras, Mr. Torres Zelaya Gerardo José Antonio, has affirmed his country's readiness of to enhance relations of cooperation and friendship with the Sahrawi Republic.
The following is the statement by the Honorable Deputy Foreign Minister of Honduras, Mr. Torres Zelaya Gerardo José Antonio, to the press, on the occasion of his visit to the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic on February 11 and 12, 2022, following his meeting with the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali: 
1. We pay a working visit to Algeria and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, founder and member of the African Union. (The only Spanish-speaking Arab African country).
2- The Republic of Honduras recognized the SADR in November 1989.
3- This visit to the Sahrawi Republic comes as an embodiment of the principle of reciprocity, following the recent visit of Foreign Minister Ould Salek to Honduras on January 27 to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of our President Iris Xiomara Castro Sarmiento de Zelaya. Thus, it is part of the friendship and solidarity between our two peoples and their governments.
4- The government of our President Xiomara Castro affirms with this visit the recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and intends to deepen and strengthen a concrete agenda between the two peoples.
This first visit to the Sahrawi Republic and other sister countries of the African Union is in line with the definition of the foreign policy of the new government, which seeks to build a “policy of sovereign and supportive international relations for Central and Latin America citizens, multilateralism and integration.”
5- We will work to deepen the multilateral relations between the AU, SICA, CELAC and all the regional spaces of which we as the people and the State of Honduras are a part.
