New York (U.S.A.), March 30, 2017 (SPS) - The Frente POLISARIO is ready to cooperate with the United Nations to relaunch the peace process in Western Sahara, which is on a standstill since 2012 said, Wednesday, its representative to the United Nations Ahmed Boukhari.
“We are ready to cooperate with the United Nations to discuss the ways allowing to put the peace process back on track, and to overcome the tensions created in the area of El Guerguerat,” Boukhari told APS following a meeting of the Security Council on the MINURSO.
“It is clear that there are three problems that make the situation difficult in Western Sahara and which block any peace initiative in this territory awaiting decolonization,” he said.
It is primarily about Morocco’s obstruction of direct negotiations, the dismantling of the MINURSO, which struggles to regain its full functionality, and the situation in the area of El Guergart, which is the result of the violation of the terms of the cease-fire by Morocco, said Boukhari.
In order to straighten up the situation as a whole, the Secretary General’s next report must include, in this regard, observations and recommendations addressed to the Security Council, he said.
The Frente POLISARIO, only representative of the Sahrawi people handed over, to a higher level during the meeting between president Brahim Ghali and the UN Secretary General, all these elements and discussed the peace process, said the Sahrawi representative. SPS
