Bir Lehlu, 15 November 2020 (SPS) - The Polisario Front and the the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) launch an "urgent" appeal to the United Nations and the African Union to support the Sahrawi people in their struggle against Morocco's "brutal" assault and its violations of the cease-fire, the Sahrawi Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In its reply, the Sahrawi side denounced the "unilateral decision" of Morocco which "tramples on its commitments and flouts all principles and human values in common" and which is "to persist in its violations of the ceasefire when its armed forces took the initiative this morning of Friday, November 13 to cross, in the Guerguarat area, the military wall that forms a demarcation line between the Moroccan invasion forces and the Sahrawi army.
"The Moroccan invasion forces gathered several days ago in flagrant violation of Military Agreement No. 1. ", under the pretext of wanting to open the illegal breach that peaceful demonstrators belonging to the Saharawi civil society had closed as a "protest against the silence of the United Nations Mission and against the incessant attempts by Morocco to evade the commitments signed with the Saharawi side, under the auspices of the UN and the OAU/AU following 16 years of war and six years of negotiations leading to the 1991 Peace Agreement," it recalled.
Sahrawi diplomacy noted that the "persistence of Moroccan occupation in important parts of the SADR is explained by a blatant complicity in the Security Council, making it clear that "Morocco's presence on the territory of the SADR is classified by the United Nations General Assembly as an illegal occupation (General Assembly Resolutions 37/34 in 1979 and 35/19 in 1980), to which must be added the Opinions issued by the International Court of Justice in 1975, the European Court of Justice in 2016 and 2018, and the Legal Opinions of the United Nations in 2002 and the African Union in 2015," added the source.
