The opening ceremony of the 6th International Conference on Peoples' Right to Resistance: Case of Sahrawi people,” was chaired by President Ghali, who said in a speech that “this international conference, to which Algeria has accustomed us, is an important step to emphasize the Sahrawi cause through a series of speeches made by international participants on deep and qualitative issues.”
“I seize this opportunity to thank all participants in the organization of this event,” he said, stressing that “this strong participation reflects the extent of international solidarity with the struggle of the Saharawi people and their just cause."
Resistance “is a legitimate right for all peoples that struggle for their freedom and dignity,” said President Ghali, stressing that the Sahrawi people, under the leadership of his only legitimate representative, the Polisario Front, which celebrates the 45th anniversary of its creation this year, “persevere in their resistance and remain fully committed to recover their sovereignty over a free and independent Sahrawi territory, with the support of their allies and friends worldwide.”
Co-organized by the Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with Sahrawi People (CNASPS) and SADR Embassy in Algiers, the two-day conference aims at demanding rapid implementation of the United Nations' resolution 1514 on the peoples' right to self-determination, and breaking media blockade imposed by Morocco on Sahrawi people in the occupied territories and encouraging the media to visit the occupied Sahrawi territories.
The conference brings together delegations from refugee camps and the occupied Sahrawi territories, more than one hundred participants from 53 African, Latin American, Arab and European countries, in addition to representatives of civil society, politicians, national and local elected representatives, academics and journalists.
