Berlin, 5 December 2022 (SPS) - The 47th edition of the conference of the European Coordination for Support and Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (EUCOCO) will be held next year in Zaragoza, Spain, affirmed Sunday a senior member of the Polisario Front.
"EUCOCO has decided to organize the 47th conference, next year, in the Spanish city of Zaragoza," indicated the Polisario Front's representative in Europe and to the European Union (EU), Oubi Bushraya Bashir.
"Eucoco decides that its 47th conference will be held in Zaragoza, Spain," reads the Final Declaration in Spanish, adopted at the end of the 46th conference held on 2 - 3 December in Berlin, Germany.
While EUCOCO had initially chosen the name of the French city of Ivry-sur-Seine to host the work of the next edition of the conference, the choice of Zaragoza was made after the representatives of this city in northeastern Spain were proposed, said concordant sources to APS.
The last time the Spanish city hosted the EUCOCO conference was in 2004 for its 30th edition, in which more than 400 people attended from 17 countries.
This annual conference, organized since 1975 in various European cities, is considered the most important international demonstration of solidarity with the Saharawi people, where hundreds of activists each year support the Saharawi cause and the right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination.
The participants in the 46th EUCOCO conference, which concluded Saturday in Berlin, reaffirmed their support for the right to self-determination of the Saharawi people for the independence of Western Sahara.
The two-day conference, attended by no less than 220 participants, called on "the United Nations and the Security Council to assume their responsibility through MINURSO (United Nations Mission for the Referendum on Self-Determination in Western Sahara) to conduct the referendum in Western Sahara as provided for in the 1991 and 1997 agreements".
