Stockholm (Sweden), July 23, 2017 (SPS) - The Swedish commission of solidarity with the Sahrawi people denounced the iniquitous sentences against the Sahrawi political prisoners of "Gdeim Izik" group, affirming that the trial and according to the testimony of international observers who attended the trial was just a “pure staging” and that the sentences were pronounced on the basis of confessions extracted under torture and false testimony.
“The Moroccan court pronounced the same iniquitous sentences, inflicted by the Moroccan military court against 25 activists in 2013, following their participation in the protest camp set up by the Sahrawi people outside the city of al-Ayun in 2010,” said the communiqué,  sentences ranging from 20 years in prison to life imprisonment.
The Swedish commission of solidarity with the Sahrawi people underlined the communiqué of the Sahrawi government which “stressed the responsibility of the United Nations in ending the sufferings of the Sahrawi people, Africa’s last colony, through the organization of a self-determination referendum and bringing the Moroccan occupier to end the violations of Sahrawi people rights and the plundering of their natural resources as well as the unconditional release of Gdeim Izik’s prisoners and all the Sahrawi prisoners in the Moroccan jails.”
The commission also called on the Swedish government to support the Sahrawi people for the recovery of their legitimate rights. (SPS)
