Geneva (Switzerland), Dec 6, 2018 (SPS) - The negotiations sponsored by the UN between the Frente POLISARIO and Morocco continue in Geneva, Switzerland to comply with the demands of the Security Council and resume the peace plan to search for a solution based on the self-determination of the Saharawi people.
The talks, which began yesterday at the United Nations headquarters, aims to bring key parties to the decolonization of Western Sahara, the Frente POLISARIO and Morocco, for the involvement in credible actions that allow the implementation of Security Council resolutions and fulfill the objective of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).
According to UN sources, today's meeting will focus on the impact of the Western Sahara conflict in the Maghreb region and address the future of the peace process and the commitment of the parties to collaborate in a credible and constructive manner.
This meeting has the participation of Mauritania and Algeria, countries that share the border with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and observers in the political process led by the United Nations and the African Union.
The appointment will end with the appearance of the personal envoy of the Secretary General of the UN, the former German President, Horst Kohler, before the international media to expose the outcome of this meeting and the commitments reached by the parties.
The last round of direct negotiations took place in 2012. Since then, Morocco hampered all the efforts of the UN.SPS
