Controversy about Western Sahara: Algeria does not attach importance to "vain actions"

Submitted on

Paris, September 24, 2016 (SPS) - Algeria's ambassador to Brussels Amar Belani put the record straight in response to "burlesque statements" made by Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations Omar Hilale, stressing that Algerian officials have better things to do than attaching importance to these "vain actions."
In an interview to Afrique-Asie magazine, Belani stated that the Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations "is desperately trying to make the international community believe that there is a bilateralization of the Western Sahara issue while for the whole international community, it is a decolonization issue who process must be brought to completion in accordance with international law.
In this regard, Belani affirmed "Algerian senior officials have more important things to do than attaching importance to such vain actions characterized by an inept rhetoric."
Although it is not involved in the judicial proceedings between the Polisario Front, the Council of the European Union and its Moroccan partner, following the cancellation by the European Court of the EU-Morocco agreement on the liberalization of trade in agricultural products, fish and fishery products on last 10 December, Algeria, like the international community, is following "with interest" developments in this issue, Belani affirmed.
