Basque region (Spain), November 10, 2022 (SPS)- The Secretary General of the National Union of Saharawi Women, Shaba Seini, began a work and coordination visit to the Basque region in Spain. Accompanied by the Saharawi representative in the region, Jadiyetu El Mojtar, and Mansura Bachari, representative of the National Union of Saharawi Women in Spain, meetings were held with political authorities and civil society.
Shaba Seini is currently on an institutional visit to Euskadi in the Vitoria-Gasteiz, Basque region, to shed lights on the serious situation that Saharawi women are experiencing in the struggle for independence and to promote actions of solidarity and support for the organization of the National Union of Saharawi Women (UNMS).
As part of her first work visit to Europe, with stops in Belgium, France and Germany, the secretary general has met with Emakunde, the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, the Álava Provincial Council and the Association of Friends of the SADR of Alava.
In all her meetings, the member of the National Secretariat of the POLISARIO Front has addressed the political and humanitarian situation that is currently being experienced in the refugee camps or in the occupied zones of Western Sahara, recalling that the war scenario requires a special effort to guarantee the protection of the civilian population in the occupied zones and forcing Morocco to respect its commitments.
Likewise, the Saharawi official has warned that the inaction of the international community and the lack of concrete actions have generated distrust of the population. Now it is necessary, more than ever, for the United Nations organization to focus all its efforts to enforce compliance with its resolutions.
In relation to the work of the UNMS, the secretary general addressed the organization's efforts to continue strengthening the presence and strength of Saharawi women in the political and social sphere. The Saharawi Government and the POLISARIO Front, Shaba Seini has pointed out, maintain a clear and advanced policy to promote the participation and involvement of women in the most important scenarios.
Meetings with the Saharawi community in France and Belgium evaluated the organization's work with the aim of identifying short- and long-term challenges.
Shaba Seini also made a stop in Berlin, where she participated in the work of the III International Conference of Women of the World. The important event addressed a number of topics, including: the problem of racial discrimination and equality, land occupation and its consequences, anti-imperialism and colonialism in all its aspects.
