Submitted on

New York, 19 April 2020 (SPS) -  Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, Representative to the United Nations, has held a teleconference entitled "the unfinished decolonisation of Western Sahara, the process of UN settlement and the policy of the superpowers", in which he broached the various stations of the United Nations' dealing with the Sahrawi issue, which is the only issue of decolonization in the African continent and which the UN has failed to complete so far.
The Sahrawi diplomat reviewed the various obstacles that prevent any progress on the Sahrawi issue at the UN level, describing the settlement process as "totally paralysed" by the obstacles that Morocco has put in place with the support of its allies.
He also considered that the negative role France plays in protecting and supporting Morocco in the Security Council is one of the main reasons behind Morocco's intransigence and non-fulfillment of its commitments regarding the decolonisation of Western Sahara.
The Representative of the Polisario Front to the United Nations reiterated the position of the Polisario Front, which was expressed last October and confirmed during its recent statement regarding its reconsideration of its involvement in the entire UN peace process and its affirmation not to participate in any process that does not respect or guarantee the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence,
He concluded with a series of recommendations that would counter Moroccan propaganda and intensify campaigns of solidarity with the Sahrawi issue and pressure the occupation, focusing on the important role that civil society plays in this regard.
The teleconference was attended by more than 80 participants from different countries, who asked various questions, which were finally answered by Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar. (SPS)
