El Aaiun (occupied territories), 14 August 2022 (SPS) - A Sahrawi association has condemned the violations of the Moroccan occupier against Sahrawi political activists and human rights defenders, the latest of which is the encirclement and harassment imposed on the family of the activist Ghali Bouhela, released from a Moroccan prison after a year and a half of detention because of his peaceful struggle for the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination
The Sahrawi Association of Victims of Serious Human Rights Violations Committed by the Moroccan State affirmed that these flagrant violations are part of the continuous and systematic repressive policies of the Moroccan occupier against political activists, journalists and human rights defenders.
It also "expressed its solidarity with the released prisoner (Ghali Bouhela) and his family, who are continuously attacked and surrounded by the Moroccan occupation forces", while denouncing "the continuous violations, the infringement of freedoms, the policy of repression and the mock trials faced by Sahrawi civilians".
The association also called for "the release of Sahrawi detainees including those of the group of Gdeim Izik and the human rights defender, Yahia Mohamed Al-Hafiz who are imprisoned in the jails of the Moroccan occupier.
Moroccan occupation police used intimidation to prevent the Bouhela family from receiving solidarity and sympathy, blocking all access to the family home and threatening to force their way into the house if a reception was held to celebrate Ghali Bouhela's release from prison.
