New York (United Nations), 29 August 2020 (SPS) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reaffirmed in a recent report that the question of Western Sahara is still considered, by the UN General Assembly, as a decolonization issue.
"The question of Western Sahara is still on the table at the UN General Assembly as a decolonization issue and also held the attention of the UN Security Council," the UN chief said in his report on the activities undertaken by the stakeholders during the Third International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism in the World.
"The Security Council has continued to consider the reports of the SG and adopted resolutions on the situation in Western Sahara," a Non-Self-Governing Territory, occupied militarily by Morocco for more than 40 years, said the UN SG in this respect.
During the period covered by the report, "Special envoys and representatives of the Secretary-General continued to consult, with stakeholders, on ways to remedy the situation," he added. (SPS)
