Addis Ababa, May 21, 2011 (SPS) - The Saharawi Ambassador in Ethiopia and African Union, Dr. Sidi M. Omar, has categorically denied allegations of the Former U.S. Ambassador, Edward Gabriel, about involvement of memebers of the Polisario Front in the ongoing conflict in Libya.

The Saharawi diplomat said responding to an article issued Friday by the World Tribune, “We categorically deny these baseless allegations and challenge all those parties that propagate these kinds of preposterous accusations to bring forth any evidence in their possession to prove their claims.”

He underlined that these allegations “emanate from those quarters that have vested interest in discrediting our liberation movement,” adding “the sole aim of the Polisario Front is to liberate Western Sahara from Morocco’s illegal occupation and to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their internationally recognised right to self-determination and independence.”

He also pointed that the position of the Saharawi Republic (SADR), as AU full and founding member, in regard to the on-going conflict in Libya “stems from the same policy of the African Union.” (SPS)
