Malabo (Equatorial Guinea), June 28, 2011 (SPS) - The foreign ministers of Namibia and Angola urged, in their interventions during the19th session of the UA Executive Council which opened Sunday in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, the African Union to exert pressure in order to accelerate the decolonization of Western Sahara.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Namibia, Mr. Utoni Nujoma, reaffirmed the support of his country to the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to freedom and independence, calling on the African Union to make "further efforts to find a solution to the problem of decolonization of Western Sahara and end the suffering of our Sahrawi brothers."
From his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola, Mr. Georges Chicoti, expressed the support and sympathy of his country with the struggle of the Saharawi people and its just cause, urging the Union to redouble its efforts to complete the course of the decolonization of Western Sahara, which international community must shoulder its full responsibility toward this question.
The Council is expected to bring the conclusion of its work to the 17th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Union, held Thursday and Friday, in Malabo, capital of Equatorial Guinea, according to the agenda of the summit. (SPS)
