Argentine Deputies call for recognition of SADR

Buenos Aires, 13/07/2011 (SPS) .- Deputies Cecilia Merchán, Gerardo Milman and Fabio Basteiro agreed Tuesday in Buenos Aires, to encourage the creation of a Parliamentary Friendship Group and work for the recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.

The deputies held a press conference in the Salon Cabezas, attended by the Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Salme Bachir, alongside with diplomats and human rights organizations.

Gerardo Milman said that last year the ambassador invited him to visit the refugee camps and that he could see the difficulties they face. Considering Argentina recognition for SADR as "necessary". 

Meanwhile, Cecilia Merchan compared the RASD situation with Palestine, calling for the establishment of a commission of friendship among peoples, as a first step to boost recognition as Argentina recently gave Palestine.

Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic was proclaimed in 1976, it is a founding member of African Union and has been recognized by more than 83 states. .
