President of Zimbabwe affirms his country’s support to right of Saharawi people to self-determination and independence

Harare, Sept 17, 2011 (SPS) - The President of Zimbabwe, Mr. Robert Gabriel Mugabe, has affirmed the firm support of his country to right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence, adding that this position “is consistent with the history of Zimbabwe in respect to the struggle for liberation, values of justice and rights of peoples to self-determination and freedom in accordance with the UN Charter and principles, during his reception to the credentials of the Saharawi ambassador to the Republic of Zimbabwe, Mr. Daish Mohammed Saleh, at the presidential palace on Sept 8, 2011.

The Zimbabwean president hailed decision of the Saharawi Republic of opening an embassy in Harare, confirming “it would contribute to deepening the bilateral relations existing between the two brotherly states and peoples.”

He therefore recalled to the long history of solidarity between the two liberation movements in Western Sahara and in Zimbabwe, expressing his party and Zimbabwean people’s hope that Saharawi people, under leadership of the Polisario Front, would enjoy freedom and national independence as soon as possible.

It should be noted that Mr. Daish Mohammed Saleh has presented his credentials as an ambassador for the Saharawi Republic (SADR) in Harare to the President Robert Mugabe, in the presence of Zimbabwean dignitaries and officials as well as representatives of the Zimbabwean media. (SPS)
