SADR takes part on eighth conference of the AU Population Commission

Addis Ababa, Sept 17, 2011 (SPS) - The Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic has took part on the eighth experts conference of the AU Population Commission held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on Sept 15-16, which was allocated to study the outcomes of the Commission work during two years.

The conference was marked by the participation of experts in population and development from all AU Member States, who significantly contributed to enrich the debate on the achievements and to deepen the deliberations concerning the evaluation and prospects of work in the two coming years. It was also witnessed the election of Commission’s office, which contains five members representing Africa’s five regions and which will rule its work until the next session.

The SADR delegation met Ms. Bience Gawanas, AU commissioner for social affairs, where they discussed the ways to strengthen the AU institutions, especially in the social field.

It also held several meetings with delegations of South Africa, Burkina Faso, Chad, Niger, Nigeria, Egypt and Zimbabwe. It exchanged views and experiences in various areas, as well as informed them about the latest developments concerning the Western Sahara’s conflict.

The Saharawi delegation was comprised of Mr. Hammadi Bachir, ambassador to South Sudan, Baba Haisan, chargé d'affaire of the SADR embassy in Addis Ababa, Mohamed Mbarek Mohamd Daf, second secretary and legal adviser in the Saharawi Permanent Mission to the African Union. (SPS)
