Moroccan NGO warns of the seriousness of human rights situation in occupied Western Sahara

Rabat (Morocco), Oct 13, 2011 (SPS) - In a report issued last Sunday by its branch in the occupied city of El Aaiun, the Moroccan Association of Human Rights (AMDH) has warned on the aggravating serious situation of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, calling for accelerating the establishment of UN mechanism to monitor and report about human rights abuses.

The report noted a serious escalation of human rights violations, warning of the growth of chauvinism, agitating the Moroccan settlers against the Saharawis and imposing an atmosphere of fear and intimidation through tighten the militarization and siege over the city of El Aaiun, due to the creation of an atmosphere of tension and congestion and lack of security.

The report condemned the campaigns of security repression targeted all forms of peaceful protest in the occupied city of El Aaiun, appreciating the support of the Moroccan Association of Human Rights to the demand of the international and local jurists movement in establishing a UN mechanism to monitor the state of human rights in the occupied Western Sahara.
