US-Western Sahara Foundation Calls for Increased Cooperation with Sahrawi Republic over Recent Abduction of Humanitarian Workers

Submitted on

Washington, DC, October 27, 2011 (SPS) - The US-Western Sahara Foundation called for increased cooperation from the international community to work with the Sahrawi Republic to gain the release of three humanitarian aid workers abducted from the refugee camps on Saturday and to respond to this act of terrorism with an increased commitment to help the refugees.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Fernandez Coin Aino and Enrico Gonyalons of Spain and Rossella Urru of Italy, and the international community must increase its cooperation with the Sahrawi Republic to gain their safe release," said Suzanne Scholte, Chairman of the US Western Sahara Foundation.  "This act of terrorism against humanitarian workers who were there to help the refugees must be met with a redoubling and rededication of our own efforts to help the Sahrawi refugees."

"Our entire world is in a conflict between those who use peaceful means and the rule of law to achieve their goals and respect human rights and dignity against those who use persecution, fear, coercion and terrorism and have no regard for human life," Scholte said.  "The international community must respond to this act of terrorism with increased solidarity with the Sahrawi people and their just cause."
