Cuba donates 530 tones of sugar for Saharawi refugees

Algiers (Algeria) January20, 2011(SPS) the Republic of Cuba, Thursday evening, presented 530 tons of sugar as a humanitarian aid for the Saharawi refugees, according to Saharawi embassy in Algiers.  

The Ambassador of Cuba in Algeria, Emilio Rodriguez, handed over this donation to the representative of the World Food Programme  in Algeria, Usama Othman,in presence of the First secretary of Saharawi embassy in Algiers Mhamed  Shikh , the first secretary of Venezuelan embassy in Algiers and representative of Algerian Red Croissant.

The Cuban ambassador explained that this assistance is “necessary for the Saharawi Refugees and comes in framework of Cuban humanitarian help to contribute to meet the food needs  and  is a solidarity initiative with the Saharawi people” he said confirming the Cuban firm position in favor of “  the Saharawi legitimate cause”  

For his part the Saharawi official expressed that this initiative is a “symbol and embodiment of good relationship between SADR and Cuba and expression of friendship between the Saharawi and Cuban peoples”

He reminded that Cuba has accompanied the beginning of the Saharawi straggle in addition to “its efforts in education and health through receiving hundreds of Sahrawi students in Cuban universities and Cuban health missions in the    Saharawi refugee camps” (SPS)
