El Aaiun (occupied territories), Jan 23, 2012 (SPS) - The Saharawi political prisoner, Ali Salem Cheikhatou Bella, subjected Saturday to physical and verbal assault by three officers from the Moroccan local prison of occupied El Aaiun and in the presence of his family members, informed a source of the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.
“The attack took place when the Saharawi political prisoner received a small paper with phone numbers of Saharawi citizens he wanted to contact them via the prison phone, before surprisingly subjected to beaten, insult and verbal abuse by three agents without showing respect to his family or some other visitors,” according to the statement of the family.
The attack led to injuries at the level of his face. The family expressed concern about the fate of his son under the aggression and abuse from the jailers, who may not hesitate to continue the exercise of assault and ill-treatment against him, lamented the source.
The Saharawi prisoner was born in 1988 in the occupied city of Dakhla. He was arbitrarily arrested on October 4, 2011 by elements of the Moroccan police backed by armed forces units, a week after the bloody events of Dakhla. He is still incarcerated along with 17 other Saharawi political prisoners awaiting trial in the same prison in El Aaiun. (SPS)
