Spanish parties call for respecting right of Saharawi people over their fishing resources

Submitted on

Madrid, Feb 7, 2012 (SPS) -The Spanish political parties, Basque Nationalist Party and the Republican Left demand, on Tuesday before Congress, the respect of the Saharawi people's right over their fishing resources.

Both parties call for the inclusion of the Western Sahara conflict among the expected fisheries agreement between EU and Morocco. The subject will be discussed today in the Spanish Congress .

Basque Nationalist Party suggested an amendment stressing that the new agreement should respect the Saharawi human rights as well as to exclude the waters of Western Sahara.

Republican Left, through its deputy Joan Tardà, has announced its intention to raise the Saharawi issue inside the debate. "We will defend the right of the Saharawis to their fishing resources in the new agreement because the Social party (PSO) and the Popular Party (PP) have been abandoned the Saharawi case since a long time" Mr. Tardà wrote on his Twitter account.
