United Nations, Feb 27, 2012 (SPS) - The ninth round of the informal negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco will be held next March 12 to 13 in Manhasset, suburbs of New York, declared Friday the UN.

The meeting will take place in Manhasset again under supervision of the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Mr. Christopher Ross, and in the presence of delegations of the two parties and representatives of the observing countries: Algeria and Mauritania.

The Security Council reaffirmed in resolution approved last April its commitment to assist the two parties to the conflict to reach “a just, durable and mutually agreed solution allowing the self-determination for the Saharawi people,” calling for improving the state of human rights of the Saharawis.

Polisario Front and Morocco initiated in 2007 direct negotiations under auspices of the United Nations, where they held four direct rounds in Manhasset (New York) as well as eight informal meetings in Vienna (Austria), La Viet (Italy) and Manhasset. (SPS)
