Belgian MP's call for expanding MINURSO mandate to protect human rights in occupied Western Sahara

Brussels, March 06, 2012 (SPS) - The Belgian Intergroup "Peace for the Saharawi People" called on Tuesday in Brussels, for expanding the MINURSO mandate to include the protection of human rights in occupied Western Sahara, according to a press release issued by the group.

"The Intergroup has sent a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay to request the extension of the MINURSO mandate to include monitoring and protection of human rights in Western Sahara, "the statement said.


During its meeting held  at the Belgian Parliamentary House, the Intergroup consisting of members of socialist parties, Christian Democrats and Greens, heard a testimony of Mohamed Salem Bouaamoud , former political prisoner from the occupied city of Al Aiun .(SPS)
