Submitted on

Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps), March 11, 2012 (SPS) - The Chief of the Spanish party Union for Progress and Democracy (UPyD) in Castilla y León, Ms. Ana Domínguez Penelas, has reaffirmed the support of her party to the Saharawi people in their legitimate rights to self-determination and independence.

UPyD official expressed, during her visit to the Saharawi refugee camps, the commitment of her party to support the Saharawi refugee, as to exert pressure on Morocco to stop violating rights of the Saharawi civilians in the occupied Western Sahara and south of Morocco.

Ms. Penelas described, in a statement to the press at the end of her visit, the situation of the Saharawi refugees as “tragic” as a result of the circumstances and lack of potentials.

She visited various international cooperation projects financed by the Junta de Castilla y León and met with members of the Government of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic.

UPyD official was therefore received by the Prime Minister, Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar, who praised the unwavering support of Rosa Díez and UPyD to the Saharawi cause. (SPS)
