WIDF expresses concern on Moroccan human rights violation in Western Sahara

Brasilia, April 16, 2012 (SPS) - Women's International Democratic Federation (WIDF) has expressed concern on the Moroccan violations of human rights and looting of natural resources in Western Sahara, condemning Morocco’s illegal occupation of Western Sahara, in a motion concluded its fifth conference held from April 8 to 12, 2012 in the Brazilian capital.

“We express our deep concern on the gross violations of human rights practiced by the Moroccan authorities against the Saharawi civilians in the occupied part of Western Sahara,” asserted the motion, which a copy of it reached Monday SPS.

Participants of WIDF 5th conference renew their support to the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence, expressing solidarity with Saharawi women in the refugee camps and occupied territories in their legitimate struggle for freedom as well as building and progress of their country, Western Sahara.

The motion called for conducting a speed referendum of self-determination in Western Sahara and establishes, as soon as possible, an international mechanism to protect and report about human rights situation in occupied Western Sahara.

It therefore asked to release all the Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails, unveil the whereabouts of more than 500 disappeared and 150 Saharawi military prisoners, allow the access of international observers, press and humanitarian organizations to the Saharawi occupied territories as to take all the necessary measures to ensure the humanitarian aid to the Saharawi refugee camps.
