New York, April 25, 2012(SPS) the reprehensive of the Polisario Front to the United Nations, Bukhari Ahmed, expressed Monday the readiness of the Polisario Front to continue cooperating with efforts of the United Nations to reach a fair and lasting solution to the conflict in Western Sahara to enable the Saharawi people for their right to self-determination.

“I would like to express the readiness of the Front POLISARIO to continue cooperating with the efforts of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, Christopher Ross, for achieving a just and lasting solution that would reflect the will of the Sahrawi people and consequently the will of the international community.” Said Mr. Bukhari after unanimously adoption of the Security Council on resolution2204 (2012) concern Western Sahara

“   The Frente POLISARIO has taken note of the resolution 2204(2012) that the Security Council has just adopted on Western Sahara and wishes to express its appreciation to those members who, despite the intrigues and subterfuges of some, have remained faithful to international legality by adopting this resolution that reflects the substance of the Secretary-General’s call contained in different parts of his report.”

“The Council reiterates anew, as the General Assembly has done, its support for the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and reaffirms that the objective of the negotiations between the two parties is to reach a solution that provides for this inalienable right.” Bukhari highlighted

”the Council has again taken note of the proposal of the Frente POLISARIO, which indeed is based on the holding of a referendum on self-determination that includes naturally the option of independence.”

“The holding of this referendum is the reason for the presence of MINURSO in our country and the reason for the Security Council’s involvement in the decolonization of Western Sahara” He added

“The resolution, despite the direct opposition exhibited by France, takes full account, in its operative paragraph 3, of the Secretary-General’s call for the need to reinforce MINURSO so as the Mission could have freedom of movement and contact with all interlocutors, the Sahrawi population, human rights defenders, media and observers” he said

“The Council draws attention to the obstructions and problems created by Morocco for the operation of MINURSO, which the Secretary-General considers as attitudes that undermine the credibility and impartiality of the Mission.”

Mr.Boukhari, finally on behalf of the Polisario Front expressed “consternation at the continued opposition of France that prevents the Council from entrusting MINURSO with the responsibility for the monitoring and protection of human rights in Western Sahara.”(SPS)
