Bir Lehlou (Liberated Territories), May 11, 2012 (SPS) - President of Republic and Secretary General of the Frente Polisario, Mr. MamedAziz has called for activating the role of MINURSO in organizing a referendum on self-determination and protecting of human rights in Western Sahara, highlighting in a letter to the UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, that no progress has been achieved since the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2044.
The President pointed out that the Moroccan authorities of occupation, "not only obstacling the MINURSO mandate, but continue to commit gross violations of human rights and disregard the international law."
The President highlighted the attack against 15 Saharawi and arrest of others following an intervention against peaceful protest in occupied Al Aiun.
President of Republic said "the path of decolonization in Western Sahara definitely passes through enabling the Saharawi people to exercise their unavailable right to self-determination and independence, like all the peoples of the world."
“the United Nations efforts will not succeed as long as the Moroccan occupation authorities exercise repression, intimidation and harassment. " he added.
The President called for protecting the Saharawi defenseless civilians as well as to release all Saharawi political prisoners . (SPS)
