Delegation of UESARIO meets German MPs in Berlin

Berlin, May 12, 2012 (SPS)- Delegation representing the Sahrawi students’ Union (UESARIO) met Friday in Berlin with German MPs to raise awareness about the situation of human rights in occupied Western Sahara.

 

The meeting, took place at the Bundestag headquarters, highlighted the deteriorating situation of human rights  in occupied territories, in absence of UN mechanism to monitor and protect it.

 

The meeting also highlighted the lack of the humanitarian aid for the Sahrawi refugees and the need for urgent intervention of the German government.

 

From their part , the MPs Annette Groth, member of Committee on Human Rights at Bundestag and Heike Hänsel from the Left Party expressed their solidarity with Saharawi people's struggle , showing readiness to work inside the German Bundestag to shed the light on the gross human rights violations in Occupied Western Sahara.

 

The delegation which consists of member of UESARIO Executive office along with two students, arrived in Berlin as a part of European tour.

 

The Saharawi students will meet with German student organizations as well as European Parliamentarians in Strasburg . they will also take part at the Swiss-African Festival to be held in Zurich, according to statement of UESARIO.

 

The visit, which is the second of its kind to Europe this year, comes to embody the public diplomacy adopted by the Union as one of its objectives, the statement added.(SPS)
